I invested what felt at the time to be significant money, in a long summer of small group tutorials with LSSB. It was the second best business investment I've ever made. (The first is my snazzy database that can keep tabs on 1,400 customers and process a complete order in about 15 seconds (on a slow day.)
LSSB pretty much covered the waterfront of thinking and planning when you're running a small business. I have stacks of notes and manuals on still on the shelf to prove it. And I took away about 30% of they taught.
And that 30% transformed the business.
I no longer sit and wait for customers to reorder, rather, I now use a set of tools that range from:
- thank-you postcards with every delivery
- end of month thank-you emails (to flush out lingering problems)
- end of quarter nanny-service emails that remind customers to reorder t
- annual trawls through the customer base to raise the dead and talk to the living.
As a result, about 80-85% of the business is repeat orders.
Now LSSB will claim this is all the result of their efforts. That's nonsense. I figured it out for myself. It's just that putting some money on the table helped me to remember things better.
I would recommend LSSB to you at any time or stage of your business.

Content Chameleon is an independent documentation and training company specialising in the design, development and delivery of user assistance.
I first met LSSB at an FSB (Federation of Small Businesses) event in London a couple of years ago. I was very inspired their presentation on Sales and Marketing. I subsequently signed up to attend their seminar "Blueprint for Business Success". This was an excellent seminar containing lots of practical advice for small business owners.
During 2007 I then worked with LSSB on a regular basis and they have been instrumental in helping me to shape my business and focus on working on my business as well as in my business. I run a portfolio of businesses that includes Interim Management, an Online e-commerce and an Online Information business. Whilst I was quite successful in each area, my main weaknesses were planning and organisation (I didn't do any!) this left me running ragged.
Often at the end of an Interim Management contract I would realise with a shock that I was now out of work and hadn't done any marketing or business development, so that, without a referral, my next contract could easily be some months away. And this then resulted in having to invest heavily, at a time when I had no money coming in getting my marketing actions going.
With my on-line businesses, I wanted to develop passive income streams, so it didn't need my direct 'real-time' intervention to make sales or service customers. Working with LSSB I realised that I was doing tasks that I liked doing, and leaving the 'boring stuff' till 'later'.
The mistake, of course is that the 'boring stuff' is often critical to a successful business, and 'later' often turned into never. So I had 3 business ideas inching forward slowly and possibly never really fulfilling their potential.
Working with LSSB, both as a client and attending their live seminars I began to realise, what I wasn't doing and the consequences and what needed to change. LSSB helped me to develop planing and organisation techniques, showing me how to break down actions into chunks and use their 90 day planning system, which worked really well for me as a visual tool I could see everyday.
I realised what I had been doing and that I could make a plan for each of my businesses and knock them off one at a time. So that's what I did, and it worked! So much so that I've taken it offline and I'm re-inventing the business to cope with bigger volumes and more products.
